SPECIALIST'S NOTES
Known for his organic statement pieces, the New Jersey-born jewelry designer Arthur King transforms uniquely cut and rough gemstones into works of art. Born in 1921, King opened his first store in the 1950’s in New York, later opening branches in eighteen other locations including London, Cape Cod, Havana and Miami. By mounting uniquely shaped gemstones and pearls into intricate structures, King’s avant-garde and masterful sculpting renders his pieces examples of innovative design. King developed his signature style by taking inspiration from everything from natural vines to the antique surgical instruments he collected in his New York atelier. With the return to natural forms and textured metals that took place during the 1960’s and 1970’s, King’s elegant pieces appealed to high society women including Barbara Hutton and Mary Hemingway.
