Le tableau est peint sur un panneau, non parqueté. Le support est parfaitement stable.

A l'oeil nu, on constate une giffure au centre de la composition d'environ 6 cm ainsi que quelques autres dans le coin inférieur droit d'environ 12 cm. On constate le long des bords des traces, possiblement d'un ancien encadrement. On constate un réseau de craquelures légèrement prononcée dans le ciel au centre.

A l'UV, on constate une restauration débordante au centre de la composition, pouvant éventuellement dissimuler un ancien repentir. On constate une retouche un peu débordante dans la partie droite au dessus du fort ainsi que quelques retouches ponctuelles dans la mer et dans la partie supérieure.
Sous un vernis uniforme.

Dans un cadre en bois, travail moderne, avec un cartouche 'F. ZIEM / 1821-1911' (approx. 70 x 97 x 3,5 cm).

The painting is painted on a non-parqueted panel. The support is perfectly stable.

In natural light, there is a gouge in the centre of the composition measuring approximately 6 cm, as well as several others in the lower right-hand corner measuring approximately 12 cm. There are traces along the edges, possibly of an old frame. There is a slightly pronounced network of cracks in the sky in the centre.

Under UV light, there is an overhanging restoration in the centre of the composition, possibly concealing an old repentance. There is a slightly overhanging retouch in the right-hand section above the fort, as well as a few isolated retouches in the sea and in the upper section.Under a uniform varnish.

In a wooden frame, modern work, with a cartouche 'F. ZIEM / 1821-1911' (approx. 70 x 97 x 3.5 cm).
