The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Not examined out of frame. The edges of the canvas are covered by its frame. The canvas, stretcher and attachments appear to be in generally good condition. The canvas undulates slightly in the areas with thicker impasto. There are fine hairline cracks in places with some associated paint losses, most visible to the left half of the composition. There are some further areas of craquelure with associated minor paint losses, most visible near the right vertical edge. When examined under ultraviolet light, there appears to be no evidence of any retouching. Subject to the foregoing, it is our view that the work appears to be in generally good condition.
