The canvas is supported with a glue lining and the paint is stable on the support. Under natural light, the varnish is cloudy, obscuring what appears to be an intricate pattern on her dress. Two vertical, 2 inch lines of strengthening are visible at upper center. Ultraviolet light does not easily penetrate the varnish, however, retouches to a 5 inch repaired tear at lower center fluoresce slightly. The painting could be displayed as is, though cleaning and a new varnish could be considered.
