Lot Essay

The 'À Versailles' High Jewellery collection, launched by Dior in 2016 - was inspired by the opulence of the Palace of Versailles and the romance and luxury associated with it. These earrings draw inspiration from the famous Hall of Mirrors - seen in calibré-cut diamond pendents that evokes the glittering effect as candlelight is reflected between the mirrors and chandelier pendeloques. Further references to 18th century jewellery design are seen in Victoire de Castellane's use of blackened gold and rose-cut diamonds - imitating the silver settings and style of stone cuts used in the past.
