The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
With a clean, complete appearance, structurally sound and ready to place. With scattered age and construction cracks. With general overall marks, nicks, surface scratches, tiny losses and repairs consistent with age and use. As stated in the cataloguing, largely later veneered and possibly originally conceived to be ebonized, as evidenced by the black interior and the general clean appearance of the veneers; there is some scattered fraying, minor cracks and minor areas of losses and signs of infill and restorations to the veneered surface. The enameled dial is later but with signs of age, largely in good order; there are some hairlines scattered at its surface, with a cluster between II and III, and small areas of restoration around the 10 and 30. The glass is replaced. The ormolu mounts with some minor surface scratches, casting inconsistencies, oxidation and rubbing, as to be expected; retaining mercury gilding. The brass over the molded edges of the lower spreading plinth section with a fair number of small dents throughout.. Overall presenting well, ready to place.
Please note: Christie's does not guarantee the functioning of clock works, which should be examined by a qualified restorer.
