The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

- with small to narrow margins, with slightly irregularly trimmed edges on three sides.
- pale light-, and time-staining, darkening at the upper and lower edges.
- the colours attenuated.
- soft creasing in places, mainly visible in raking light.
- a few small brown spots verso, not showing through recto.
- pale back-board staining and minor surface dirt verso.
