Lot Essay

Guillem Matallanas Riba is a designer from Barcelona. After several years working as an architect, he moved to London in 2015 to pursue an MA in Graphic Design at LCC, shifting his focus to graphic and exhibition design. His artistic work is driven by a long-standing fascination with geometry, pattern, and visual trickery. By repeating simple shapes, experimenting with line weight, and working with a restrained colour palette, he creates compositions that convey movement, depth, and rhythm. Rather than adhering to a fixed style, Guillem’s designs reflect his personal visual interests and ongoing exploration of form. He primarily works in screen printing, a process that allows him to achieve the precision and clarity he seeks. Through careful layering and nuanced colour mixing, he produces images that feel almost digital, yet are entirely handmade.
