Descriptif du lot

This small and vaguely sinister self-portrait is one of many made by Ensor throughout his career. The etching is closely related to a drawing made in the same year, today at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Brussels (inv. no. 11150).
The artist, aged 26, here portrays himself seen in a mirror, faintly illuminated by the dim light of a shaded oil lamp.
