Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The painting is executed on a wood panel of vertical grain with wooden strips added along all four edges of the panel. There is a small hole at upper center that has been drilled and repaired. The paint layer is stable, although slightly yellowed, and under a clear and even varnish. In natural light, restorations along the panel are visible. Under ultraviolet light, restoration to the aforementioned repair flouresces, as do scattered pinpoints of restoration, primarily to the dark background and to the lower left and upper right corners. A touched-up abrasion to Eve's proper right upper thigh and a touched-up vertical abrasion in the upper left quadrant are also evident. Under IRR, a loose underdrawing is evident, as is also visible in the catalogue image. The work is offered in a simple wood frame. The painting presents well and can be hung in its current state.
