‌The painting presents well and is in fairly good condition. The picture displays an interesting technique, with the wood of the support elegantly used, barely painted, in the depiction of the cross.

‌Earlier cleaning has resulted in some wear to the paint film, particularly in Christ's torso; the lettering of the inscription at the top also shows some abrasion and reinforcement. Stippled retouching is present throughout, most substantially in the face, right forearm, torso, right leg, and the skull at the base of the cross; broader compensation has been applied to the cross at lower right. A crack through the cross's proper right arm (extending through Christ's upper arm) has been repaired. At the ends of its arms, filling and retouching addresses losses at the perimeter. The varnish, perhaps a synthetic resin, is clear, glossy, and fairly thick.

‌The wooden support is in very good condition. There are signs that a veneer once covered the reverse.
