The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
In addition to the catalogue description:
- the sheet fractionally smaller than the dimensions recorded by Wittrock, but probably the full sheet as issued.
- the colours muted (as is common), especially the blue spatter on the ground and in the sky, and the red of the second jockey's cap.
- two small holes in the lower subject: one on the horse's right upper hind leg (circa 2 x 3 mm.), the other to the right of the horse's front left hoof (circa 2 x 2 mm.).
- a few pinpoint foxmarks, mainly in the lower subject.
- faintly inscribed with a number 242 hm [?] in pencil at lower right recto.
