Lot Essay

This steel 'A Series' is part of the very first 2'000 Royal Oaks ever created, numbered from A0001 to A2000. Audemars Piguet had originally planned to produce just 1'000 pieces, but the model's tremendous popularity led the manufacturer to double the run to 2'000. The B Series, C series, and later iterations were produced after the A Series sold out.

The most renowned bracelet maker of the 20th century, Gay Frères, produced the bracelets, although Gérald Genta was solely responsible for the iconic Royal Oak reference 5402ST. Each link is joined by two smaller, perpendicular stainless-steel links, allowing the case and bracelet to blend together seamlessly. This clever design follows the wrist's natural curvature to produce a bracelet that is both aesthetically pleasing and incredibly comfortable.
