Lot Essay

H.R.H. Princess Mary, Princess Royal (1897-1965), was the daughter of King George V and Queen Mary. In 1922, she married Henry, Viscount Lascelles, who would later become the 6th Earl of Harewood. From 1930 to 1965, Harewood House served as their family home.

Princess Mary had a particular fondness for owls and, over the years, amassed a wonderful collection that included several hardstone owl figures by Fabergé. Most of these were displayed at Harewood House.
