The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Not examined out of frame. The edges of the canvas are covered by its frame. The canvas, stretcher and attachments appear to be in generally good condition. There is an uneven varnish layer that has discoloured in places. There are drying cracks to the child figure and the bowls, presumably in keeping with the artist's intent. There are some fine drying cracks in places. There are some small circular impressions with associated pinpoint losses to the white headscarf, presumably from previous packaging. There are some minor paint losses to the white headscarf in the lower right quadrant. There are three light brown drip marks in the lower left quadrant and centre of the composition, presumably in keeping with the artist's working method. When examined under ultraviolet light, there appears to be no evidence of any retouching. Subject to the foregoing, it is our view that the work appears to be in generally good condition.
