The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Not examined out of frame, the edges of the canvas are covered by its frame. The canvas, stretcher and attachments appear to be in generally good condition. The canvas is slightly slack and undulates, most visible to the upper left corner. There are scattered fine hairline cracks to the corners. There are some minor cracks to the white impasto with some associated losses, the largest two in the upper centre of the composition. There are some minute breaks to the impasto peaks and some lifting to the white impasto in the lower right quadrant. There is an impressed impasto peak to the lower left quadrant. There are some scattered brown accretions in places. There is a red linear media mark to the lower left quadrant. When examined under ultraviolet light, there appears to be no evidence of any retouching. Subject to the foregoing, it is our view that the work appears to be in generally good condition.
