The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Not examined out of frame. The edges of the canvas are covered by its frame. The canvas, stretcher and attachments appear to be in generally good condition. There are hairline and drying cracks in places to the composition with associated paint losses, most visibile to the upper right quadrant, to the brown impasto in the lower right quadrant, the dark brown brush stroke and near the signature in the lower left quadrant. There are some pinpoint flyspots in places, most visible to the upper half of the composition. When examined under ultraviolet light, there appears to be no evidence of any retouching. Subject to the foregoing, it is our view that the work appears to be in generally fair condition.
