Lot Essay

Established in Nice in 1900 by Léon Gaucherand, Gaucherand was part of the flourishing French jewellery tradition of the early twentieth century. Located on Avenue de la Gare, now Avenue Jean-Médecin, the maison progressively expanded from a retail and repair workshop into a respected jewellery manufacturer. By the 1920s, Gaucherand was registered as a jeweller in Nice and employed a maker’s mark featuring a cicada alongside the initials “SG” for Société Gaucherand. Renowned for its finely crafted and elegant creations, the maison reflected the refinement and craftsmanship characteristic of French jewellery during the interwar years.
