Lot Essay

Sandro Chia (b. 1946) is one of the most renowned living Italian artists, rising to fame as a key member of the Italian Transavanguardia – a subset of the worldwide Neo-Expressionist movement that reached its height in the 1980’s. While principally a painter, Chia is also an accomplished printmaker and sculptor, skills that he employed while at Graphicstudio. Chia worked with the studio from 1987 to 1994 on a sculpture multiple and six print editions that utilized a combination of printing techniques.
