PATEK PHILIPPE, REF. 5204-001, A RARE AND ATTRACTIVE GOLD SPLIT-SECONDS CHRONOGRAPH WITH PERPETUAL CALENDAR
CASE NUMBER: 6’121’***, MOVEMENT NUMBER: 5’252’***
The reference 5204 was initially released at Baselworld in 2012 in platinum and was powered by the highly complicated movement 29-535 PS Q, the very first in-house movement fully developed by Patek Philippe which replaced the Lemania-based 27-70 Q. The platinum version was eventually discontinued in 2018. Very few watch brands have mastered the art of combing a perpetual calendar with a split-seconds chronograph as well as Patek Philippe have.
As the successor to the legendary Ref. 5004, the brand's first serially-produced split-seconds chronograph with perpetual calendar, the 5204 features a day/night indication instead of a 24-hour hand display. Made in a 40 mm. case, the watch was sized for modern tastes as compared to the more vintage 36.7-mm. girth of the Ref. 5004. Numerous design improvements were made to the dial giving it an overall cleaner look and better readability.
At Baselworld 2016, a pink gold version of the Ref. 5204 was added to the product catalogue, expanding the firm’s offering of the reference from just platinum when first debuted. The present timepiece is being offered in excellent overall condition from the original owner
