Early sammelband of eight rare Cauchy papers on calculus; in a contemporary binding. “One of the most important mathematicians of the early 19th century. His work ranged enormously in almost 800 papers, but he is chiefly remembered as one of the founders of rigorous mathematical analysis” (Oxford Dictionary of Mathematics). The binding indicates that these papers were collected together by an early reader.

Eight papers in one, quarto (255 × 200mm). (Variously toned and spotted). Contemporary painted vellum over paper boards, spine tooled in gold (rubbed, few wormholes); blue cloth box.
