The classic combination of a white gold case and blue sodalite hardstone dial ranks among the most visually captivating configurations ever created for the Rolex Daytona. The present timepiece takes this already exceptional combination a step further through the addition of diamond-set hour markers, their brilliance contrasting beautifully against the rich and naturally varied blue tones of the stone. The result is an exceptionally luxurious interpretation of Rolex's iconic chronograph, combining the sporting character of the Daytona with the refinement of high jewelry and the individuality of a natural hardstone dial.

The manufacture of a hardstone dial is an exceptionally delicate and demanding process. A flawless section of stone must first be selected before being carefully cut into extremely thin slices and fitted to the dial's metal base. Given the natural fragility and internal structure of the material, breakage can occur at virtually every stage of production, resulting in a high rejection rate and comparatively few finished dials. Furthermore, as no two pieces of natural stone possess exactly the same colour, inclusions, or veining, each completed dial is inherently unique. Well-preserved examples are therefore particularly prized by collectors seeking the rarest and most distinctive executions of the celebrated Daytona chronograph.

Sodalite
Named from the Latin sodium and the Greek lithos, meaning stone, sodalite takes its name from its high sodium content. The mineral was first discovered in the Ilímaussaq complex in Greenland and scientifically described in 1812 by Scottish chemist Thomas Thomson.
