Lot Essay

Created in support of amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, the present Hublot Big Bang transforms one of the manufacture's most recognisable designs into a watch conceived with a charitable purpose. Produced as a special limited edition, the model helped raise both funds and awareness for the Foundation, whose logo is prominently incorporated into the dial at 5 o'clock. Further references to the partnership appear through the colourful chronograph seconds, hour and minute hands, executed in amfAR's distinctive colours.

The watch itself offers an unusually glamorous interpretation of the Big Bang's characteristically muscular architecture. Its ceramic bezel, secured by the model's signature exposed screws, is embellished with a double row of 114 diamonds, their brilliance standing in sharp contrast to the dark ceramic construction. At its centre, a mother-of-pearl dial introduces changing tones and reflections according to the light, softening the deliberately technical appearance of the case while providing an elegant backdrop to the colourful indications.
