Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas, stretcher and attachments appear to be in generally good condition. There is fraying to the ends of the canvas and some minor oxidation to the nails on the turnover edges. There is rubbing to the extreme edges. The canvas undulates slightly to the lower right corner. There are cracks in places across the composition, most visible to the black glossy passages in the left half of the composition. There are further minor cracks and rubbing to the white impasto peaks with a minor loss to the peak in the upper left quadrant. There are scattered drip marks, accretions and vertical linear abrasions, presumably in keeping with the artist’s working method. When examined under ultraviolet light, there is no evidence of any retouching. Subject to the foregoing, it is our view that the work appears to be in generally good condition.
