Right Facing In good stable condition overall. With some repaired areas, retouching and replacements to the alabaster cloak overall. On the proper left side of the cloak a 1 inch loss to the alabaster replaced with infill. A spliced addition of white marble at the top of the chest. Areas of fill around where the bust is set in to the torso indicating it is associated to the bust. The socle are apparently later in date. Cracks and infilled repairs to the socle. Repaired cracks overall to the black marble of the chest with some discolored inpainted repairs. Left Facing On the other, the socle is later and with some cracked repairs. In good stable condition overall. The bust with some replacements to the tips of his curls, now slightly discolored. Some surface dirt overall. Some natural flaws and dirt on the surface of his face and neck. A chipped loss to his proper right eyebrow. The tip of his nose replaced and discolored. The neck with surface dirt and additional fill at the joint of the neck to the torso. The cloak with multiple repairs and infill overall. Repairs to the yellow marble at the top of the torso. The clasp of a later date.
Both with inset rusted rings to the back for stabilization.
Plinths are 52 1/4 in. high Faced with colored stone on the front and sides. Fill visible in the joints. With nicks and nibbles at the edges and surface dirt overall. The stone with natural inclusions and colorations. Apparently interchangeable.
Plinth of Right Facing Figure The upper cornice edges with filled lines and repairs. Small chips at the corners and edges including a 1/2 inch chip on the front. The right face with cracking and reattachments. Some areas of dark fill and a minor loss a the back edge about three feet from the bottom. The front with chipped losses along the right edge. Fill in some of the cracks from the center booking seam and other filled inclusions. Repairs visible at the four lower corners. The left side with cracks, dark brown filled inclusions, and black fill to losses at the back edge. The base with filled areas in the lowest step on each side.
Plinth of Left Facing Figure The upper cornice with chips and small losses at back corners and front upper ledge. Fill for either natural inclusions or repairs in various light colors for natural appearance. A matched replacement on the front right corner. The right face with chips along the back edge. Red and matched lines of fill. Thin cracks. The front face with filled inclusions and chips/losses at left edge and lower right edge. Replaced or repaired lower corners. The left face with filled inclusions and minor chips. The base with fill at the back corners. Possible replacement at front left corner. Small nicks chips and fills.
