HAMILTON, Alexander (1757-1804). Autograph letter signed ("Alex Hamilton") to the Spanish commissioner to the United States Don Joseph de Jaudenes, Philadelphia, 18 February 1795.
One page, bifolium, 330 x 230mm (light toning at margins, tear at seal, mounting remnants along verso of spine fold). Addressed in Hamilton's hand to de Jaudenes on the integral transmittal leaf. (light edge toning, mounting remnants to the verso and paper loss from removal of wax seal).
A month after Hamiton resigned his post as Secretary of the Treasury, he offers a letter of introduction to "General Pozer the Gentleman about whom I connected with you will have the honor of delivering this letter – I communicated to him what you were so politic as to say to me; and he waits upon you to obtain the letter you were obliging enough to promise." Apparently, Jaudenes declined to respond to Hamilton, as the letter has been docketed "sin respuesta." Not published in The Papers of Alexander Hamilton.
