Lot Essay

The panther has long served as a design motif for Cartier – the feline has appeared on its exclusive high-jewellery prices and wristwatches. The present timepiece features a striking portrait of a panther rendered in relief on a gold dial. The portrait features a mix of rose, yellow and white gold surface using the Damascene technique.

The work is so well executed, there is a real life-like quality to the dial and the black base surface acts as the perfect backdrop for this portrait. Limited to just 50 pieces, the timepiece is powered by a manual-winding movement and should appeal to Cartier collectors.
