Lot Essay

Made in the 1920s, this is a great example of the kind of chronographs Omega produced in the first half of the 20th century. Oversized and made from a three-part hinged case, this watch was likely made for aviators and features multiple scales on the enamel dial. The case was made by Tramelan-based Vuilliomenet & Cie SA as evident from the case key number 148 on the inside of the hinged caseback.

The monopusher of the chronograph has an unusual location, at 6 o’ clock and thin wire lugs that really amplify the oversized nature of this wristwatch. The original clear crystal, made from a cellulose compound, has developed a yellow tint over the last century. However, on lifting the hinged crystal, one can also admire the untouched enamel dial with its multi-colour scales. In working condition, this is a truly rare watch that should appeal to collectors of rare chronograph watches.
