Lot Essay

Echoing the style and craftsmanship of the revered jewelry firm Marcus & Co., this fantastical Art Nouveau pendant captures the essence of the early 1900’s design movement. Crafted in the delicate plique-a-jour technique, the enamel leaves and flowers gently move along with the wearer. Accented by old and single cut diamonds and set in 18k yellow gold and silver, similar Art Nouveau designs can be found in Marcus & Co. illustration archives located at the Rauner Special Collections Library at Dartmouth in Hanover, New Hampshire in particular the book titled ‘Brooches, Pendants No. 2’.
