The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
We have sought to record changes in the condition of these pieces acquired after their initial manufacture.
- The xiapei:
- This is in good condition with some loose threads in places and some age-related wear and small losses to the embroidery in places.
- There is some fraying to the lower edge of the blue silk lining that has somelight areas of discolouration.
- The gilt buttons are European with lions to one side and Standard Gilt Cut to the reverse.
- The rank badge:
- This is in good overall condition with some loose threads in places as to be expected with age.
- It has been mounted on a later border and later silk backing that has a small split and an ink stamp.
- The red-ground robe:
- It is finely worked in Peking knot but has been later tailored with the sleeves shortened, and the robe taken in at the sides, front and lower edge.
- There are some loose threads and small losses to the gilt thread.
- There are a few small stains and a few small areas of light discolouration
- The yellow-ground robe:
- There is some fading in places and some small areas of light discuouration.
- The lower edge has been reinforced with a later border that is loose in places.
- There are loose threads all over.
