Lot Essay

Cast on a large scale, the present horse faithfully reproduces the famous 16th century 'Mattei Horse' which is today in the Palazzo Vecchio, Florence. The model is also believed to have been cast in the late 18th century by the Roman bronze founder Giuseppe Valadier (1762-1839), with a particularly beautiful example selling in these Rooms 4 July 2013, lot 10.
