A extensive note (attached to the backing board) written by the great-grandson of the original owners describes the circumstances of the gift. Burnley Hunter Eccles managed the Woodbrook Estate at the time of his wedding.
Provenance
Given by the artist to Burnley Hunter Eccles and Isabella Maria Zürcher to mark their wedding, Woodbrook, April 1887, and thence by descent to the present owner.
