Lot Essay

Reference 5070, Patek Philippe’s first chronograph-only model for decades, was launched in 1998. It was first produced exclusively in yellow gold which was replaced in 2001 by the white gold version. The pink gold variant was launched in 2003, platinum in 2008. It is fitted with the caliber 27-70 movement, based on the Nouvelle Lemania ébauche especially developed for Patek Philippe With its case diameter of 42 mm. Reference 5070 together with the Sky Moon Tourbillon ref. 5002, are the largest watches in Patek Philippe’s production. It is thought that production ceased after reaching 1000 examples of each gold color and in platinum far fewer.
