The canvas has been subject to relining; it is held under tension and remains stable. Despite the relining process the impasto in the details is still discernable in a raking light. The the narrative detail and integrity of the artists' technique remains fully appreciable, with the vivacity of execution well preserved. There is a fine pattern of crauelure across the paint surface, with some associated retouching that can be seen in natural light in the paler tones, notably the pale blues in the upper sky. Examination in UV light confirms the aforementioned scattered retouching to the sky. There has been some strengthening to the darker details and outlines of the figures, architecture and trees. There has been some partial cleaning of the historic varnish. The paint remains stable.
