Lot Essay

Marchak, sometimes called the “Cartier of Kiev,” was a distinguished Parisian jeweler with roots in Ukraine, founded by Joseph Marchak in the late 19th century. After relocating to Paris in the 1920s, the maison quickly gained acknowledgement for its bold creativity and cosmopolitan flair.

Art Deco jewels were characterized by geometric patterns and bold contrasts. Marchak incorporated influences from Asian inspired designs into his creations often blending strong lines with bursts of vibrant gemstones on enameled surfaces as demonstrated on the present case.
