The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Generally in good order. The gilt and ebonized framing elements with scattered small losses and breaks and some areas of replacements, including at the left side. With scattered chips, losses to carving and gilt surfaces revealing gesso, bole and bare wood in areas as to be expected with age. A few of the smaller plates slightly loose and shifting in their framing, most prominently the inner plate at 3 o'clock. The plates with scattered losses to silvering commensurate with age, most prominently at the right edge of the central plate. The plate just above the central plate, and the outer plate at the 10:30 position, each with a break to its short axis; the uppermost plate and the outer plate at the 1:30 position each have a small break near one edge. The inner framing plate at 1:30 has a piece of transparent tape to its painted surface, over the figure's quiver. The painted decoration generally in good order, with scattered scratches, flakes, small losses and areas of touch-up. Although it has not been possible to take definitive samples of the paint, some testing has been able to be conducted, showing evidence of lead white, tiny particles of smalt in the blue and traces of a copper green in the green, all consistent with the period of the mirror (together with some evidence of later restoration as to be expected).
