L'original en marbre a été réalisé par le sculpteur Guillaume Coustou (1677-1746) et est aujourd'hui conservé au musée du Louvre (inv. MR 1813). La commande de cette sculpture revient au surintendant et ordonnateur général des Bâtiments du roi, le duc d'Antin (1665-1736), qui souhaite réaliser un pendant au Louis XV en Jupiter (inv. MR 1811) par Nicolas Coustou pour son parc du château de Petit-Bourg. Le choix se porte alors sur une représentation de la reine Marie Leczinska (1703-1768) en Junon. Placée à Versailles en 1776, elle entre au musée du Louvre en 1850.

The original marble sculpture was made by the sculptor Guillaume Coustou (1677-1746) and is now in the Louvre (inv. MR 1813). The commission for this sculpture came from the Surintendant et ordonnateur général des Bâtiments du roi, the Duc d'Antin (1665-1736), who wished to create a pair with the Louis XV in Jupiter (inv. MR 1811) by Nicolas Coustou for his garden at the Château de Petit-Bourg. The choice was a representation of Queen Marie Leczinska (1703-1768) as Juno. Placed in Versailles in 1776, the group entered the Louvre in 1850.
