The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This report was prepared by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.:
This work is painted on canvas but has been mounted onto board. Unfortunately, the sky and the blue water in the lower left have cracked severely and paint losses are now occurring on the left side in two spots. These losses will quickly become more numerous if not addressed. It is difficult to consolidate a paint layer such as this while the work is mounted onto board. One can see that the work is still slightly dirty, with discolored retouches in the blue sky across the top, particularly in the upper left. There is also some retouching on the right side in the sky and in the hills in the center right. Despite all of this, if the work were carefully removed from the board and properly restored, then the condition would be seen to be quite good.
The condition of lots sold can vary widely due to factors such as age, previous damage, restoration, repair, and wear and tear. The nature of the lots sold means that they will rarely be in perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
