Lot Essay

Originally named Yamada Minoru, Yamada graduated from Tokoname Technical School, completing the Ceramic course in 1941.
He also learned ceramic making from his grandfather and father, using the artist name "Ko-Jozan" from around 1947. He won the Grand Prix at the World Exposition 1958 in Brussels and used the name Jozan III from 1961. He was identified as an Aichi Prefectural Intangible Cultural Asset in 1994 and designated a Living National Treasure in 1998.
