Lot Essay

Tracey Emin emerged in the 1980s as one of the ‘Young British Artists', or 'YBAs'. Her art is one of disclosure, and she uses events in her life as inspiration for paintings, drawings, videos, installations, photographs, needlework and sculpture. Emin reveals her hopes, humiliations, failures and successes in candid work, which is frequently both tragic and humorous. Emin represented Britain at the 52nd Venice Biennale (2007), and was RA Professor of Drawing (2011-2013). She has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the Royal College of Art, a Doctor of Letters from the University of Kent and Doctor of Philosophy from London Metropolitan University. She has shown work extensively worldwide and is represented in many major international public and private collections.
