Late 20th century

During the 1980s, the Bulgari 'Parentesi' became an icon of high jewelry, gaining such popularity, it went on to become one of the most extensively copied designs of its time. The concept for 'Parentesi' took shape in 1982, when Gianni Bulgari was doodling and discussing jewelry design theory with other creatives at the firm. His idea of turning a simple graphic pattern into a modular became the foundation for 'Parentesi', which is a series of case modules that connect by interlocking. Since the birth of the design, it has been expressed through yellow gold, white gold, steel and combinations using gemstones or segments set with diamond pavé. Lot 2 is a fabulous example of a high-end 'Parentesi' jewel, with the shimmering diamond-set segments. This iconic look was made to be worn, with flexbility and comfort in mind, as well as design.
