Earliest volumes of this monumental Dutch botanical work, which issued its last volume (number 28) in 1934. The series was begun by Jan Kops, a Dutch agronomist, botanist, and professor at the University of Utrecht. He edited the first ten volumes from 1800 until his death in 1849, and was succeeded by several other editors. The entire 28-volume work comprises 2240 plates. Nissen 2247; Stafleu & Cowan v.2, 3874

Three volumes only (of 28), quarto (285 x 208mm). Engraved titles including hand-colored vignette in vol. 1, and 240 hand-colored plates total (plate 78 remargined, occasional light spotting; old marginalia in ink on a few text pages). 19th-century half calf over cloth (extremities worn). Provenance: Priscilla Susan Falkner, Fairfield, November 1819 (inscription on front endpapers) – Edward J. Bury (bookplate).
