SILVER BINDING – Missale Romanum ex decreto sacrosancti Concilii Tridentini restitutum. Venice: Nicolò Pezzana, 1763.

Tridentine missal in a handsome Italian decorated calf binding, with silver bosses and clasps with unicorn decoration.The firm of printer Nicolò Pezzana issued many editions of this missal from the 1720s through the 1770s.

Folio (364 x 258mm). Title printed in red and black with engraved vignette, text printed in red and black, musical notation, woodcut initials and ornaments, and three engraved plates (a few wormholes on title and preliminary leaves, occasional light spotting). Contemporary mottled calf gilt with red onlays, silver armorial boss and clasps, all edges gilt (extremities lightly worn). Provenance: San Fedele da Sigmaringa, Rome (18th century annotations in ink at end).
