The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Overall with losses, areas of restoration and replacement, lifting, and discoloration to the green horn, including a 11⁄2 in. section of loss above the central lower ormolu cartouche. Areas of horn dry throughout. The mounts re-gilt, and with areas of wear, scratches, and tarnish as to be expected. The gilt frames around the side glass windows likely later. The left side glass window re-attached and with associated putty to the interior. The glass to the sides and to the door later replacements. The door currently askew on its hinges possibly due to some previous restoration, and currently unable to close fully. With one key for the door latch, though the latch is currently not functional due to the nature of the door as previously described. Some minor evidence of wood worm to the interior structure, now inactive. The brass sheeting to the interior and sides likely later, with some areas of lifting. Some sections of sheeting to the interior currently off though retained. Some hairline cracks to the enamel of the dial, along with some minor chips and losses, including around the winding holes and 7 o'clock. Some losses to the gilding around the dial. The clock movement apparently original and with anchor escapement. The pendulum with signs of poor previous cleaning. Further with the crotch currently off but retained, the pendulum now improperly placed in the workings but could be restored. The bell to the top currently off but retained. With one winding key. Please note that Christie's does not guarantee the working order of clocks.
