Lot Essay

In 2009, Patek Philippe debuted the platinum Gondolo reference 5098P-001. The watch captivated the eyes of many enthusiasts with its beautiful tonneau-shaped case, drawing inspiration from the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. The timepiece has a masterfully handcrafted guilloche dial which creates a compelling, yet refined aesthetic. There are many facets within the dial that captivate and reflect light. The spade hands further draw from the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods, and the platinum construction completes the tasteful interpretation of a lavish period such as the “Roaring 20s.”

Reference 5098P-001 features a sapphire case back that displays Patek Philippe inhouse Caliber 25-21REC. The manual-winding movement is rectangular-shaped to appropriately fit the case, and the bridges have marvelous Côtes de Genève and anglage hand finishing.
