The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This condition report was prepared by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.:
This work has not been recently restored. The canvas is lined with wax. The paint layer is stable and quite heavily varnished. Retouches in the sky are visible to the naked eye. There is a restoration in the blue sky in the upper center to a horizontal break of about 3 inches long, and a similar repaired damage in the upper right sky. There is a small loss in the center of the sky. There are numerous abrasions and very uneven passages to the paint layer in the sky. The paint is also very uneven and abraded in the mountains beyond the lake. The condition in the foreground is better, but there is weakness in the lake as well. The signature in the lower right seems to be healthy. This is a picture that needs restoration, but a fair amount of retouching would be required.
