In 1938 Benois worked on a revival of the three-act opera by French composer Jules Massenet (1842-1912) Le Jongleur de Notre Dame at La Scala, Milan. The opera premiered in 1902 at the Opéra Garnier in Monte-Carlo.

Les Couples Amoureaux, Elle signed with artist’s initials and dated 'AB./1938' (center right) 143⁄4 x 103⁄8 in. (37.5 x 26.4 cm.) pencil, colored pencil, ink and watercolor on paper
Condition report: The sheet has been detached from its original mount. The left and lower edges of the sheet are very slightly uneven and irregular. There are two pinholes in the lower right quadrant. There are traces of old adhesive in all four corners and the center of all four edges. There are faint traces from the prior housing visible along all four edges. The sheet has slightly discolored. The pigments have faded.
Bergers qui representent les tentations variées (young man playing horn) signed with artist’s initial 'AB' (center left) and numbered 'N11' (upper right) pencil, sanguine, ink and watercolor on paper, with fabric swatch 147⁄8 x 101⁄4 in. (37.8 x 26 cm.)
Condition report: The left and lower edges of the sheet are slightly uneven and irregular. There is a minor tear to the center of the right edge. There are minor creases and nicks visible throughout. There are traces of old adhesive in the upper and lower right corners and the center of the upper edge. The sheet has slightly discolored. The pigments have faded. There is some surface dirt.

Condition report: The upper and right edges of the sheet are slightly uneven and irregular. There are minor creases visible throughout. There are traces of old adhesive in the upper left and right and lower right corners. There are faint traces from the prior housing visible along all four edges. The sheet has slightly discolored. The pigments have rubbed slightly.
Le Choeur (Three figures) numbered 'N5.' (upper right) pencil, ink and watercolor on paper 147⁄8 x 101⁄4 in. (37.8 x 26 cm.)
Condition report: The upper and right edges of the sheet are slightly uneven and irregular. There is minor creasing throughout. There is some stray pigment in places. The pigments have rubbed slightly with minor associated losses. The sheet has very slightly discolored. There is surface dirt.
