From 11–25 October  Christie’s is proud to present The Ann & Gordon Getty Collection: English and European Decorative Arts, part of a series of landmark auctions of the Getty’s storied San Francisco interior. Proceeds are set to benefit the Ann and Gordon Getty Foundation for the Arts, dedicated to the support of arts and science organisations.

Like the great estates of England, the Getty houses wove a seamless tapestry comprising highlights of human craftsmanship and artistry. Through dedication and a sharp eye, Mrs. Getty created complexly layered and beautifully refined interiors. ‘I value the depth that time and serendipity give to a room, and what I hate most is to repeat myself,’ she once said. ‘That’s probably why I admire the eclectic mix of comfort and formality in great English houses. They never feel quite finished.’ Drawn from all over the Getty residence, this sale showcases 18th and 19th -century English and European furniture, decorative objects, pictures, books and textiles.
