One can see a similarity between the design of this lot and the designs by James Leman (1688-1745). The textile designer and manufacturer played a prominent role in the English industry, based in Spitalfields. See the collection at Victoria & Albert for examples of Leman's 'Bizarre' patterns.

Please note antique textiles exhibit wear, losses, soiling and tears from normal use and repurposing. Some elements are re-pieced together with complimentary or contemporaneous textiles to mend.
The shaped fragment most probably an element from a chasuble. With fraying raw edges and some hems coming undone. Tiny pinhead holes scattered. Light soiling throughout and minor creasing. Lovely example of a rare silk.
Christie’s strongly suggests viewing this lot in person. You may wish to contact a professional textile conservator with any additional questions as we are unable to provide in-depth condition analysis.
