The seasons: Spring, Autumn and Winter

The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

In general, all are in fairly good condition. General discolouration over time to all images. To the three Rosalba Carriera mezzotints on glass, some areas of paint coming away from the glass at the edges. The ribbon in ‘Winter’s’ hair has oxidised and turned white/silver. Some minor knocks and chips to the frames, and some shrinkage to the mitred corners of the frames. Some chips and losses to the gilding to the inner slips. Some minor dust overall. To the other pair of prints, three cracks to the glass at the upper right corner of ‘Spring’. The replaced silvered frames in good order with minor rubbing, wear, chips and losses.
